James T Kelly
Born: 10 July 1854, Castlebar, Co Mayo, Ireland
Died: 12 Nov 1933, New York, USA
Kelly was a small framed actor and singer who learned his trade on the stage. He was well known for playing elderly and tired looking men. He starred with Chaplin in some of his Essanay films and also at Mutual. Later he worked at Universal and also at Hal Roach.
Kelly also appeared with Harold Lloyd in Among Those Present and also in Safety Last.
After his successive associations with the two top screen comedians, Kelley played the field, working with Baby Peggy in Hansel and Gretal (1923), Stan Laurel in Near Dublin (1924), Joe Murphy and Fay Tincher in Andy's Stump Speech (1924), Edward Everett Horton and Zasu Pitts in The Business of Love (1925), Al St. John in Fire Away (1925), Lloyd Hamilton in in Framed (1925) and Nobody's Business (1926).
